THE FORUM: Re-imagining South Africa

Re-imagining South Africa is a Cape Town TV (CTV) project on a series of weekly shows on CTV between September and December 2020 – made possible by the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung, South Africa Office.

Author and columnist John Matisonn applies his experience in the South African government, the United Nations and as a foreign correspondent to break fresh ground in re-imagining a more successful South Africa after Covid 19 with authors, politicians and other leading experts from South Africa and beyond. One special focus of many episodes is on understanding why South Africa’s economy failed to grow and is not adding enough jobs and what needs to be done to overcome this predicament.

Re-imagining South Africa is an FES and Cape Town TV project that consists of weekly current affairs television programme of one hour per week/episode, hosted by John Matisonn, to re-imagine South Africa in the wake of the Covid 19 pandemic. It aims to provide a forum to bring to public attention ideas and policy solutions needed to improve government and grow a job-creating economy.

The show aims to provide a forum to bring together local and international thought leaders. It will seek South Africa-appropriate solutions on current issues such as – for example - how to kickstart infrastructure development, seeking best options for aligning energy plans with our climate change policy and international commitments, or examining South Africa’s role in multilateral institutions alongside our African and international partners.
