Creating Meaning for Movement: The Role of Youth in Climate Change

THE Wits School of Governance in partnership with Friedrich Ebert Stiftung South Africa invite you to the fifth roundtable in the 2018 series focused on exploring social transformation and the social contract in South Africa.

Climate change is a complex, wicked challenge impacting us all, but in particular the younger generation who will have to bear the brunt of risks and impacts for years to come. Despite this there are very few platforms for youth engagement and consultation on this critical issue. This roundtable will provide an overview of current and future impacts of global and local climate change, including a review of the role of state, civil society, and business.

The discussion will focus on how youth can be engaged meaningfully on climate change issues, surfacing what barriers and opportunities are being experienced. The presenters hope to hear from youth on this issue so that youth inputs can be co-developed to enhance the agency of all to be active change agents in response to environmental change.
