The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung supported African youth from Eastern, Southern and West Africa to participate in the 2nd Socialist &Democrat Africa Week between the 25th – 28th September 2017, at the European Union in Brussels, Belgium.

The Group of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists & Democrats in the European Parliament hosted its second Africa Week together with ACP Young Professional Network (ACP YPN), BOZAR, Foundation for European Progressive Studies (FEPS), Friedrich Ebert Foundation (FES), International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY), Party of European Socialists (PES), Party of European Socialists Women (PES Women), Rainbow Rose, SOLIDAR, Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB) and Young European Socialists (YES).

The four-day programme under the theme “Youth and the Future of Africa” included political debates, cultural activities, open discussions and workshops, art exhibitions and film screenings and many other events for meetings and exchanges. A significant outcome of the event was the YOUTH MESSAGE TO THE 5TH AFRICAN UNION-EUROPEAN UNION SUMMIT crafted by African and European youth. Through the message the youth sought to ensure women and youth empowerment reach the AU-EU agenda among other issues such as the impact of digitisation, the role of education and fostering of entrepreneurship. The Youth Message was presented to the S&D Group and lobbied to be included into the official AU-EU Youth Stream.
