This briefing describes the initial Environmental Impact Assessment process for the southern site of the Musina-Makhado Special Economic Zone (MMSEZ), where an electro-metallurgical heavy industry facility is proposed. It documents shortcomings in the process, adjustments proposed to the project (e.g. reducing the size of the coal-fired power plant) and contestation of the legality if the EIA process.
