The Institute for Global Dialogue (IGD) and the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) South Africa invites you to a public dialogue: South Africa in the World: Reflecting on 2022.
South Africa navigates a challenging and fluid global and regional landscape; as countries chart the course of recovery in the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine war has produced significant ripple effects with major economic repercussions. Closer to home, South Africa has also been grappling with the insurgency in neighbouring Mozambique as part of the regional SADC Mission in Mozambique mandated to combat terrorism and acts of violent extremism in the Cabo Delgado province. While domestically, the South African government is facing multiple crises, including an entrenched energy predicament, a stagnant economy and factional battles within the ruling ANC.
This event will reflect on South Africa’s foreign policy performance in the context of evolving regional and global landscapes. In addition to analysing aspects of continuity and change in South Africa’s foreign policy in practice, the discussions will also touch on key events and developments to look out for in 2023 and the implications for policy discourses and debates.
