Killing the Nation: a queer analysis on violence Web Seminar

This is not another GBV talk. We have been here before, and the results have been the same. This time we take a different turn. 

This seminar invites critical thought and action as a response to Cathy Cohen’s (2012: 129) call to go “beyond the brief memory of the deaths towards a more compre-hensive, ongoing and long-lasting analysis of violence”.

The event is part of the popular Fort Hare Friday Seminar Series - a partnership between the University of Fort Hare (Department of Sociology and Anthropology), and Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung South Africa (FES-SA).

Speaker 

Professor Zethu Matebeni is the South Africa Research Chair in Sexualities, Genders and Queer Studies at the University of Fort Hare. Zethu is also the African Humanities Program Fellow (2018) and has taught sociology, queer and gender studies at various universities, including at the Women’s Gender and Sexuality Studies, Yale University. In Zethu’s long list of academic and creative writing, the  latest offering is the book, Beyond the Mountain: Queer life in ‘Africa’s Gay Capital’(2021) published by UNISA Press. This book is a game-changer!
