Fort Hare Autumn School Alumni

Madoda is a History and Philosophy graduate from the university of fort Hare with an interest in ethics, political economy, African history and social theory. Ludidi is currently engaged in a History Honours course with two major research projects. One is into the “events leading to the presence of missioners in the region between the Fish and Mthatha rivers” and the other is “A biography of Mncedi Mahamba Baard”; a black rugby legend”. Another occupation of his is that of sports coaching particularly in rural development. He is an avid sportsman, and former captain of the UFH Blues rugby team and a current assistant coach.

Xatyiswa Maqashalala is a motivational speaker, life & leadership coach, Time Line & Neuro Linguistic practitioner. She holds a BSc Degree in Crop Science, a diploma in Biblical Studies, and certificates in Social Democracy & Political Economy, and Civic Leadership. She currently conducts leadership coaching seminars in the African continent as well as teach civic leadership in the NGO and the cooperate space.

Xatyiswa is also a Mandela Washington Fellow involved in numerous civic engagement activities such as; establishment of adaptive agriculture in rural & township areas, high school motivation talks, and mentorship programs.

Yolokazi Mfuto is a 24 years old young woman from Middledrift in Eastern Cape, South Africa. She is currently pursuing her Master’s degree in Political Science and International Relations at the University of Fort Hare (Alice Campus). Yolokazi is a former President of a globally affiliated entrepreneurial organisation Enactus University of Fort Hare (UFH), former Head of Disciplinary Committee in Sunrise UFH, and former Secretary General of Junior Chamber International UFH. She is currently serving in the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Youth Advisory Panel and is a mentor for the Activate change drivers. She has vast experience in leadership, capacity building, project management, community development and advocacy. She is a graduate in the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Regional Leadership centre under Public management and Governance. As a change leader, she is actively involved in Activate Change drivers, a fellow of the Fort hare autumn school, she also holds a number of certificates in community development and leadership.

In addition to her active leadership, she has attended a number of conferences including Ghana Model United Nations held in Accra, Ghana in 2017 and the 22nd AIDS Conference held in Amsterdam, Netherlands in July 2018 and Pan African Youth Forum which was held in the African Union Headquarters in Ethiopia. Yolokazi is a budding speaker (on GBV related matters, Gender equality, Decolonialisation and general life motivation. She is also program director (MC) for corporate and formal events. Miss Ntokozo Happy Msiza was born and bred in Witbank Mpumalanga Province South Africa. She studied for a BSc Agriculture (Animal and Pasture Science), of which she completed in 2018 at University of Fort Hare (Alice campus). At the same institution she was part of a student academic assistance programme at the Teaching and Learning Centre as a Supplemental Instruction Leader-(student facilitator) for first year modules in Foundation Chemistry (2016-2017) and Agronomy (2018). In 2016 she was named the Top Achiever in BSc Agriculture Pasture Science Foundation Programme.

She is the co-founder, member and a former Secretary General of the University of Fort Hare Skills Development Club (2016). A society that focuses on upgrading, improving and highlighting the crucial need for more hands on-training during practical sessions particularly at undergraduate level. This is to empower agriculture students through innovative skills development and leadership programmes to produce an all-round agriculture graduate. Additionally, she is also the Newsletter Editor of the Skills Development club. She graduated from the FHAS programme in 2018 and is a FES fellow. Happy was recently nominated as an international delegate to attend the 5th Degrowth Summer School at the Klimacamp Leipziger Land, Pödelwitz, Germany an opportunity she got from the FES-South Africa office. She wrote an article on her experience at the degrowth summer school.

Born in Engcobo Njongiwe is a Social Justice Interactor/Facilitator and African Intellectual preservation activist. He is currently a Masters in Commerce (Research in Financial Management) candidate at University of Fort Hare as well as a Student Research Assistant at Govern Mbeki Research & Development Centre. Previously he was an Institutional SRC President 2018 at University of Fort Hare, a Fort Hare Autumn School Graduate of 2017 and a Stellenbosch Just_Lead! Graduate of 2018.
