iCre8 Research Workshop – Township And Rural Green Economic Innovation Through iCre8 EKasi Kwa-Zulu Natal

iCre8 eKasi is a YouthLab initiative, it is a township economic revitalisation project aimed at innovating economic ecosystems in townships. iCre8 ekasi leverages potential opportunity for economic investment and trade by focusing on mapping, innovating and reactivating the potential of young people as economic actors.

The Friedrich Ebert Stiftung in partnership with YouthLab will host a research workshop in Kwa-Zulu Natal on 5 April 2017. The workshop will be conducted under the research theme of “Township and Rural green economic innovation through iCre8 eKasi”.

The workshop will focus on mapping economic challenges, economic assets, spending patterns and potential innovations that will accelerate economic activity. The key objective of the workshop is to empower young people to see themselves as potential agents and key drivers of economic development.

Context

iCre8 eKasi is a YouthLab initiative, it is a township economic revitalisation project aimed at innovating economic ecosystems in townships. iCre8 ekasi leverages potential opportunity for economic investment and trade by focusing on mapping, innovating and reactivating the potential of young people as economic actors. Through iCre8 ekasi townships are changed into hubs of social and economic life that sees communities responding to the social and economic ills they face by harnessing existing economic needs and assets by turning them into opportunities for entrepreneurship, employment, new industries and new patterns of trade within townships.
