Youth for Power - Youth on the Ballot

A Conversation with Youth4Parliament

Young people’s disillusionment with the political system is not unique to South Africa. Our neighbours in Zambia harnessed young people’s rage and disillusionment to build Youth4Parliament, a movement whose victories include:

•    growing from a network of 22 to over 60 000 supporters and activists
•    increasing the youth voter turnout by 21% in the 2021 elections;
•    convincing political parties to prioritise young candidates for parliament and ensure that 50% of party candidates are women;
•    uniting youth across the party lines to demand a space on the decision-making table.

How did they do it?
What were their leverage points and tactics?
What can we learn from their wins and setbacks?

Join us for an afternoon of storytelling, reflection, and exchange with the movements’ founders and leaders.
