THE BASIC INCOME GRANT (BIG) Hybrid Webinar

A conversation on a better South Africa for all.

The time has come to change course and chart a new path towards economic development until 2030 and beyond. Social Policy Initiative’s (SPI) latest research paper, A BASIC INCOME GRANT FOR A BETTER SOUTH AFRICA, explores the benefits and feasibility of implementing and funding a Basic Income Grant (BIG) in South Africa - the first step on a proposed new path to transform the whole economy.

Whichever way one slices the data, South Africa’s economy has performed dismally since its miracle transition to democracy in 1994. After 28 years, South Africa is an unviable society with record levels of unemployment poverty and inequality.

SPI and Friedrich Ebert Stiftung will be hosting a half day hybrid webinar to  discuss our latest research, and spark a conversation around the practical implications of a BIG in South Africa.

Date: Wednesday 24 August 2022
Time: 9:30 am to 1pm (SAST)
